Foxes in a Snowy Forest

I love these foxes the K-2nd grade classes did over the past two weeks.  I can see the cool shadows and the warm light on the snow outside my window right now.  This project really captured that winter light.  The foxes are adorable.  One student decided to do a wolf.

In this project, students learned about how light creates shadows and how to paint shadow.  We also learned how to draw a cute fox.  The background was painted with liquid watercolor and salt.  The trees were cut and then the markings were painted with black acrylic paint.  The foxes were drawn with oil pastel and colored with chalk pastels.  We then glued on the trees, paying attention to placement on the page, making some trees closer and some farther away.  Students then painted the shadows on the trees and snow, glued down the foxes, and added a final shadow under the fox.

Fun project with beautiful results!
