Chagall Dreamscapes

I really love the work of Marc Chagall.  I was fortunate enough to see his work in person in Mexico City years ago.  They are absolutely magical!  If you haven’t seen his work here is a link.  My 3rd-5th grade groups made some “dreamscapes” based on the works of Marc Chagall.  We began by reading “Journey on a Cloud” by Veronique Massenot and Elise Mansot.  The illustrations in this book are amazing and the story really sparks the imagination.

I gave students lavender colored paper and asked that they use mainly “cool” colors to draw and color their “dreamscapes”.  We used crayons, colored pencils, and chalk pastels to complete this project.  I love how this project sparked students’ imaginations, and how the materials used produced a dream-like quality.
