Acrylic Sunflowers

I haven’t posted much on my 6th grade and up group in awhile.  They have been hard at work on their sunflower paintings.  These were painted with acrylic on canvas boards.  Painting with acrylic is a big change from the tempera that we normally use.  I really wanted them to experiment with using glazes with gel medium.

This project was a challenge on many levels.  The drawing was a challenge and the new medium was a challenge.  Also, I gave them a limited palette, so all the colors had to be mixed.  Considering all those challenges, I gave them lots of freedom in their compositions.  They didn’t have to paint all the flowers in our still life or even keep them the same colors or surroundings.  I am so proud of them for sticking with this and love all the variety of these paintings.  There are several students still working on theirs, so I will be posting more next week.
