For the first day of “Art, American Style,” we drew and painted the Statue of Liberty.  We drew with Sharpie markers and painted with watercolor.  This was a challenge to draw, but everyone did such a great job.  I gave them the freedom to do the background how ever they wanted. We also read “The Story of the Statue of Liberty” by Betsy and Giulio Maestro.  What a great book!  It answered all our questions and had beautiful illustrations.  These all have such character!
