Thursday’s K-2nd grade class finished their bird collages. They really created some wonderfully exotic birds. They added some great detail and really gave a lot of thought to the placement of each bird in their trees. They finished pieces are just wonderful!
I knew students would be finishing their projects at different times this week. Some would need a short project to fill the hour. Fellow art teacher, Carol Cormier, shared this project. I knew it would be just perfect! Students first drew a tree with some leaves, then cut shapes from various papers. They glued these […]
The last two weeks, we have been working on a painting/collage of birds in cherry blossom trees. I loved that this project taught skills, like applying a graded wash with watercolor, while allowing for a lot of creativity. We started by painting a bright sunset in watercolor. Then, we created “blob” birds on a separate […]
Last night I did my first birthday party for grown ups. ; ) It was a wonderful group! We did an hour of Gelli plate printing. They were great sports about trying something new, and there were some amazing results. I wish I had taken pictures of some of the finished pieces, definitely some […]
Wednesday’s 3rd-5th grade class finished their Georgia O’Keefe inspired flowers. This project was adapted from Denise Logan’s Amazing Art Projects for Children. We started with a pencil drawing of a flower, then painted the flower in watercolor. After the watercolor was dry, we added more depth with chalk pastels. The finishing touch was squeezable paint […]
Thursday’s K-2nd grade class finished their glue/pastel portraits. The final step of rolling ink on the glued lines was a new technique with interesting results. Each piece really has a unique personality. Some students loved the results, and some didn’t like the lack of control with the ink. It was a little scary. I appreciate […]
This week, many of my students will be learning about Georgia O’Keeffe. She dreamt of becoming an artist in a time in America when women couldn’t vote, and female artists were unheard of. She followed her inner voice, pursued her dream, and became one of the earliest recognized female artists. I can only touch on […]
I really hope everyone had a restful break. It was great to get back to art class again. I loved hearing about everyone’s vacations. I have some great project ideas and hope I can implement a few of them this session. Today’s 3-5th grade class began a project based on Georgia O’Keeffe’s flower paintings. […]
